Alex Garcia was born in Chile, and he grew up in Peru and Cuba. His father is a musicologist and his mother is a renowned choreographer. Like many Latin jazz artists, he is bilingual and based in New York. He moved to New York in 1996 and started playing with other artists. His influences come widely from the music of jazz and Latin music artists, but also from rock music. In listening to the music, one hears the influences of Latin and jazz primarily, but some amount of rock.
