Alison Balsom studied trumpet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Paris Conservatoire with Antoine Cure, and with John Wallace and Hakan Hardenberger. She has a four album exclusive contract with EMI Classics, and won a Gramophone award for a disc of works by J.S. Bach and a Classical Brit award for Best Young British Performer 2006. She has performed as a soloist throughout the world on both natural and modern trumpets, and has given masterclasses at many of the most prestigious Conservatories and Universities. As an advocate of both old and new music for the trumpet, Alison is passionate about broadening the scope of the trumpet and its perception, and regularly works with composers on new comissions to develop the trumpet's repertoire, and status as a solo instrument.
