James Ristvedt isn't a typical third-year law student. He balances his time between days in classrooms and nights between stacks of speakers. Just a few months from finishing his final year of law school, James' bass-fueled alter ego Alpha Data may have something to say about what the future holds. Alpha Data’s debut release, Nefertiti (released on GruntWorthy Music), hit #1 on the Beatport Glitch Hop chart, and #50 on the Beatport All Genres chart, not a small feat considering his touring to that point consisted only of shows played in the Midwest. A follow-up release, Nefertiti Remixes, was released in January with remixes of the chart-topping “Nefertiti” by an all-star cast of producers (fellow #1 Beatport artist Samples, Unlimited Gravity, Sovereign Sect, J.me.j, and Burn Brighter). With over 1000 followers on Soundcloud and a couple dozen tracks released via Soundcloud, glitch hop fans across the nation have started to catch on. His signature sound, combining high-intensity bass with catchy, melodic hooks, has built him a steady and loyal following in the rapidly emerging EDM scene. Having recently released multiple remixes of well-known pop culture hits, Alpha Data doesn't seem to be slowing down at all. After spending New Year’s Eve opening and playing setbreaks for the Disco Biscuits at the prestigious Auditorium Theatre in Chicago and having shared the stage across the country for numerous internationally renowned EDM producers (Tipper, Excision, Emancipator, Eskmo, Beats Antique and countless others) Alpha Data has repeatedly showcased his ability to appeal across multiple genres.
