There are multiple artists named Altamont. 1. Altamont was formed in 1994 by Dale Crover, longtime drummer for the Melvins. Dale started the band with his friends from Acid King, Dan Southwick on bass, and Joey Osbourne on drums. After they did "the Monkee's Uncle" in 2005 they added engineer/producer Toshi Kasai (Big Business, Deaf Nephews) on guitar and keyboards. Altamont has released three albums on the now defunct Man’s Ruin label: 'Wanted Dead or Alive' (a split record with Acid King), 'Civil War Fantasy' and 'Our Darling'. In 2005 The Monkee’s Uncle was released on the label AntAcidAudio, an offshoot of Ipecac Recordings, home of the Melvins. Altamont is also featured on ‘Right In The Nuts’, an Aerosmith tribute album for which they covered the song "Make It". In late 2013 Altamont released the "Mrs. Creech" 7 inch on Valley King Records. The new 7 inch also has a Blue Oyster Cult cover on it, the song "Transmaniacon MC," which is a fictional Sci-fi version of what happened at Altamont. According to a 2013 interview with Big Wheel Magazine, Altamont have a fair amount of basic tracks recorded for the next album, they just have to finish them. 2. Altamont (Steven Wilson) was a musically precocious teenager who taught himself to play guitar and keyboards. In 1983, at the age of 15 he recorded "Prayer For The Soul", half solo and half with Si Vockings on keyboards. Credited to Altamont, it was released on the Acid Tapes label run by future Imaginary Records boss, Alan Duffy, and featured five Wilson compositions, "Altamont", "Watching Statues", "Telltale Heart", "Split Image" and "Prayer For The Soul".
