Infamous for their live shows (playing in the nude) and nihilistic, bad-taste humour, Anal Babes was one the great bands of the late '80s/ early '90s punk rock scene in Oslo, which was perhaps the greatest and, indeed, only remarkable period of Norwegian rock'n'roll. Out of this scene came bands like Astroburger, Kung Fu Girls, The O-Men (some of whose members later went on to form Gluecifer) and Turbonegro. Although contemporaries of Turbonegro, Anal Babes had no connection to Turbonegro in terms of band members. However, the two bands released a split 7" with each band playing a cover of the other. After Anal Babes disbanded, the core of the band released a 10" under the name Titmen. From the Turbo-Archive website: Longtime Oslo underground provocateures deriving from the very same era as Turboneger - ANAL BABES were around since the late 80's and finally split up in september 1998 !! The band ran through a couple of lineup changes (especially bass players) but the constant part was vocalist Terje (Turd-Babe) and guitarist David Gurrik (Punk-Babe) who is also the force behind the Oslo based Big Ball Records and member of the band Astroburger as well. In search for a guitarist Thomas Seltzer helped out with the second guitar on the Anal Babes' debut single 'Fear and loathing' (using the pseudonym 'Porn Violence') and later TRB's Carlos (drummer on Turboloid) became the Babes' guitarist. Furthermore TRB's very first drummer TK once joined Anal Babes as bass player. Their longtime drummer had been Anders (Eros-Babe) who also played in the early Gluecifer and is now in The Euroboys. ... in their very own words: "The Anal Babes are punkrock puritans of the first degree, but seems also to draw influence from Chrome, Dick Dale, and Slayer. Live they tend to combine the charisma and macho-ness of Klaus Nomi and Rob Halford with the professionality of Flipper, but they are getting "tighter". (liner notes from "Shit! Too early" compilation) Another source of inspiration seems to be their odd fascination with one of Germany's first punk bands, Big Ball & The Great White Idiot from Hamburg. They delivered the idea for the name of David's record label, there's a cover of their song "I'm a punk" on the "Shit! Too Early" compilation and the title of the Babes' debut LP is a reference to Big Balls 3rd album "The dignity of man is unimpeachable". Read more on Last.fm.
