Arpay is a Quechua word that signifies effort, improvement or reaching a summit. Arpay offers music from the Andes. Arpay was formed on April 4, 1984. Its founding members are brothers, Cesar, Fernando and Jose Reyes and Constancio Tarqui. Other members include Raul Valle and Ismael Barboza. Arpay's music portrays the sentiment of Andean peoples who have endured subjection, oppression and acculturation. Arpay's music makes use of this sentiment but adds a feeling of hope, faith and love.
