As Silence Breaks - Official Biography November 2013 Australian Heavy Metal band As Silence Breaks were formed in 2006. The Sydney act that began life as a favourite in the Australian Metal-core scene have gone on to become an entirely different beast. The band achieved early successes with the release of their debut album ‘As Silence Breaks’, appearances on the Sydney leg of the Taste of Chaos festival, and a national tour with scene heavyweights, For The Fallen Dreams and The Red Shore. In 2009, alongside a major personnel change, the decision was made to walk a different path and create music definitively Metal, dropping the ‘core’ influences. With a sound today that is best described as a fusion of Melodic Death Metal, Thrash and Progressive Metal, the band has built a reputation for it’s explosive live performances and a refusal to pigeon holed. With the release of EP, ‘The Inferno’; the deliberate shift in flavour towards the Melo-Death was established. With the new foundation set, a number of successful national tours and an ever growing fan base, the band continued to burn brighter. As Silence Breaks spent 2011 achieving milestones like supporting US Melo Death Stalwarts, Darkest Hour and Death-core giants Carnifex for the Sydney leg of their Australian tour. The momentum continued with heavy national touring, inking a deal with US Management firm, iLA and then supporting US and UK heavyweights, Periphery and TesseracT on the Sydney leg of their Australian run. Late 2011 saw the band travel to the USA, self funding the recording of their sophomore album with acclaimed US Producer, Daniel Castleman (As I Lay Dying, Carnifex, Winds of Plague, Impending Doom) at Lambesis Studios, CA. The album then went to Alan Douches (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, The Black Dahlia Murder, Unearth) at West Westside for mastering. With the album completed, the band embarked on their first US tour, travelling through California, Nevada and Idaho. Travelling over 4500 miles on the open US roads in an RV, the band battled snow, food poisoning and some last minute show cancellations, but despite the setbacks, marked the bands first international tour and helped to strengthen their US fan base. In July 2012, ‘The Architecture of Truth’ was released through New Justice Records. The album received glowing reviews as well as airplay on a number of national and international radio stations, including Australia’s premier Metal programs, Triple J’s ‘The Racket’ and Triple M’s ‘Distortion’. No Heroes Magazine’s Editor, Sarah Petchell, had this to say about the album -“If The Architecture of Truth is the future of Melodic Death Metal in Australia, then i'm excited" and went on to give the album a score of 3.5/5. Other comments, like the the ones made by Alex Sievers from SF Media, continued to encourage, and stamped further confirmation that As Silence Breaks had released an album that would further harden their status as one of Australia’s most competent and creative acts. Alex remarked that “While the title of the metal kings of Australian music may always reside with PARKWAY DRIVE, AS SILENCE BREAKS are not only one of the strongest contenders for that crown, they have also made a massive splash with one of the best metal albums of the year."and scored the album 9/10. Along side the successful release in 2012, As Silence Breaks, thrived in the live arena, with the band supporting world class acts like At The Gates, Arch Enemy, Sybreed, In Fear and Faith and Mnemic, as well as sharing a stage with many of Australia’s finest, like Psycroptic, Ne Obliviscaris, King Parrot, Blood Duster, Dream on Dreamer, Aversions Crown, LORD, Boris The Blade and Lynchmada. Nikky Holmes from Metalasfuck.net had this to say after seeing the band live for the first time in early 2012 - “For me, this band were one of the stand-out acts for the day, with smooth melodic riffs and layers of brutal death metal against delicate arpeggios.” Off the back of a strong year, the band joined with Full Metal Service out of Croatia and Chaotic Tapestry Management out London, and these established resources set about pushing As Silence Breaks across the Northern Hemisphere. 2013 began, with the band supporting Comeback Kid, Deez Nuts, First Blood and Hand of Mercy on the Boys of Summer tour in Canberra, after which a new lineup was formed due to the departure of two members. The band was then invited to perform on Burning Sea Festival in Croatia, but unfortunately the festival was cancelled. The heartbreak of this cancellation was short lived, however, as the band were then selected to support Swedish Death Metal Lords, The Crown, along with Gorod and Gotsu Totsu Kotsu on a national tour of Japan. With a re-invigorated new lineup, the tour saw the band perform in six cities, to six sold out audiences, receiving high praise from Japanese punters. The remainder of 2013 sees As Silence Breaks recording their 3rd album, with the band coming out of the studio for one appearance only on the upcoming NoiseFest in December, alongside I Killed The Prom Queen, Aversions Crown and Make Them Suffer. The band will spend 4 weeks tracking their brand new album at famed Sydney studio, Electric Sun, with popular Producer, Shane Edwards (Northlane, Thy Art Is Murder, Hellions), manning the desk. The album is then being sent to the Euro mastermind, Jens Bogren (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Katatonia, Ihsahn, Soilwork) for the finishing touches. This latest effort represents a further evolution on the last album, with the stakes significantly raised in the technicality department and the overall composition of the tracks. A lesson in the fine lines between many Metal genres, the forthcoming album is sure to entice Metal lovers, the world over. • For UK and European Management & Bookings, contact Josh McMorran from Chaotic Tapestry - chaotictapestrymgmt@gmail.com • For Australian Bookings, contact Joel Collie from Axiom Touring - jcollie@axiomtouring.com • For Publicity and Australian Label Enquiries, contact New Justice Records on media@newjusticerecords.com.au!
