There are at least three bands who perform under the name Blonde On Blonde: a) Blonde on Blonde was a guitar-led psychedelic rock group from South Wales. The band was originally formed in Newport in 1967 by vocalist/guitarist Ralph Denyer, drummer Les Hicks, bassist/organist Richard Hopkins and guitarist/sitar player Gareth Johnson. Even though they enjoyed strong reviews from music critics and achieved massive exposure playing before gigantic crowds at the 1969 Isle of Wight festival, they never managed to generate much in the way of sales. They disbanded in early 1972. b) Blonde on Blonde was also the name of the short-lived 1970's British female singing duo consisting of ex-page 3 models Nina Carter and Jilly Johnson, whose best known release was a disco cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." c) Brisbane based rock 'n roll group. Great hair, even better legs... Brisbane, Australia natives ‘Blonde On Blonde’ are a psychedelic indie rock five piece band who deliver a powerfully erotic musical tenor through salacious male and female duet vocals. Their passionately mind-bending demo released on their MySpace helped amass the international music world’s attention, through their debut track “Oh My, Oh My.” Following this, they took a temporary hiatus from the party scene of Brisbane Valley to concentrate their finances towards recording an album. The psychrock ensemble sought after the help of Brisbane legendary multi-instrumentalist and producer/mixer Dave Atkins (Resin Dogs, Wolfmother). With this joining came their debut EP “Tease”, following many months of mixing and mastering of the eagerly awaited debut. Their initial EP “Tease” received praise from both street press and online blogs, including www.whothehell.net. “Time Off” magazine slotted Blonde On Blonde for single of the week in September 2009, surpassing heavyweights Weezer and Jay-Z. Radio station 4ZZZ in local Brisbane pumped them up to high rotation, which subsequently drew them the number 1 spot in the Top 20 charts two weeks in a row. Blonde on blonde also received great honors when they were chosen by fellow psychedelic rock group “TAME IMPALA” to support the Brisbane chapter of their May 2010 tour. Blonde On Blonde continued on their path of victory with playing alongside Sydney omnipotent Wolfmother, Sugar Army, The Art, and even an east coast tour with fellow Brisbanites Dead Letter Circus. A feature in “Brisbane News” labeled them as one of the city’s next big things, spotlighting them on the cover. With an alluring sound and a strong stage presence, expect to see Blonde On Blonde captivating audiences from down under to just about anywhere the FM dial can reach. Read more on Last.fm.
