Calvin Brooks - Jazz Guitarist, Vocalist, Recording Artist. One of 6 children Calvin was born and raised in Detroit, Mi. to a automotive worker and a homemaker. His parents recognized his musical ability early on and nurtured his talent by allowing him to study and the Grinnell School of music. Growing up in Detroit in the 60’s surrounded by the sounds of Motown Calvin spent endless hours playing his guitar to the ever present R & B and Jazz tunes. By the age of 14 he was being paid to play at local events and developed quite a reputation within the music circles of his hometown. Calvin’s love of music and his undeniable talent garnered him a “gig” with Martha Reeves and the Vandellas of Motown fame. For fifteen years he toured the world and shared the stage with the premiere entertainers of the 1970’, 80’s and 90’s fine tuning his vocal skills and becoming a virtuoso on the guitar. Calvin’s influences are many, however Wes Montgomery, Grant Green and George Benson top the list. Jefffrey Popp Jeffrey Popp was born in Mt Clemens Mi. His father played string bass and ran a local nightclub in Detroit. He relocated to Las Vegas over forty years ago and is a self taught musician with emphasis on the keyboard. Jeff learned to read and write music and was awarded a scholarship to UNLV where he studied for two years leaving early to pursue his dream. Jeff spent many years on the road and played at some of the famed Las Vegas hotels and has been a fixture on the Strip since the age of 21. In 2003 Jeff met Calvin Brooks and after finding they had similar experiences and a unwavering love of music they became an impressive duo. Showcasing their vocal and instrumental skills they cover the sounds of Motown as well as the jazz standards to great reviews. A devoted family man, Calvin decided to “come off the road” and in 1999 he along with his wife Cheryl and their sons relocated to Las Vegas. He has become a mainstay on the “Strip” ever since. Calvin along with Jeff Popp can be seen Sunday through Wednesday nights from 5:30pm - 10:30pm at the Range Steakhouse Lounge inside Harrah’s Hotel Casino.
