Charlotte James is a singer songwriter who hails from Staffordshire, now living in rural Derbyshire surrounded by farm animals and digital recording equipment. She began her musical life composing short songs on a small pipe organ which puffed and wheezed the music of an over imaginative 7 year old and singing Kate Bush songs into a hairbrush. After many years of sneaking into the music block during lunchbreaks at school to continue her musical apprenticeship, she progressed to honing her writing and arrangement skills, recording and playing her songs live with a rambunctious group of talented musicians from Oxford and Bristol. More recently she’s also been steadily working on her debut LP with Welsh electronic pioneers Hybrid and has also worked with luminary Bristol producers Robot Club. Last year saw Charlotte touring in North America and far flung reaches of Europe with Hybrid as their resident vocalist/ instrumentalist/ co-writer and survived the mudbath commonly known as the UK festival season with headline appearances at Glastonbury’s dance arena sharing the bill with DJ Sasha and the Glade Festival with UNKLE. Charlotte’s blend of melancholic soulful songwriting sensibilities mixed with a love of adventurous electronica has made her a talent to watch. In between her own recording sessions, Charlotte has also been writing songs for a number of artists and her collaboration with Hybrid on their forthcoming single ‘The Formula Of Fear’ has already been picked up by Nettwerk Records in the US for a release this summer. Charlotte is currently writing and playing on Hybrid’s new LP along with recording her own album due for release later this year. Read more on Last.fm.
