Clancy

Clancy is the name of four artists; 1) British DJ/Producer/Remixer 2) a British group prominent in the pub rock scene of the early 1970s, and 3) a folk-pop group from London formed in 2006 4) a singer songwriter from Dublin, Ireland. 1) Rich Clancy known as Clancy is a British DJ/Producer/Remixer. In 1971 Colin Bass was introduced to Ernie Graham (ex-Eire Apparent) by his former band-mate Ian Gomm (Brinsley Schwarz) and, together with guitarist Jonathan Glemser, they formed Clancy. The band became part of London’s growing Pub-Rock scene and briefly signed with Island Records, but were dropped after differences with producer Muff Winwood. Shortly afterwards the band signed with Warner Bros. Records and recorded two albums: * Seriously Speaking (1974) * Every Day (1975) The line-up on both was: * Colin Bass (bass, vocals) * Ernie Graham (guitar, vocals) * Gasper Lawal (percussion) * Dave Vasco (guitar) * Dave Skinner (keyboards, vocals) * Barry Ford (drums, vocals). Clancy split in 1976. 3) Clancy are a group of singer/songwriters who create quirky folk-pop songs. They are fronted by singer/actress Sharon Clancy who is from Wexford, Ireland, and from whom the band takes its name. Sharon has starred in numerous musical (on and off the West End) and enjoyed a lengthy solo career. Other members of Clancy include junk percussionist and singer Katie Stephenson of (previously of Bang On!), keyboard player Nikki Link, Chris Guard and Stuart Walton on guitars and Pete Riches on keyboards. Clancy are based in West London, their music is described as quirky, melodic pop with edgy lyrics. They have embarked on a number of live tours, the first beginning in London on October 16th 2007. 4) Clancy's debut album, a collection of ballads entitled ‘Road to the Heart’, co-written by Herm (who released his debut album ‘Monsters’ in 2009), was released in 2010. Clancy was once a singer-songwriting drummer with The National Prayer Breakfast (NPB) a band who released three albums worth of garage rock at the turn of the last century (The Irish Times called them ‘important’ and NME compared them favourably to Lou Reed). But something must have happened to Clancy between then and now, because while the NPB (like Clancy’s childhood musical heroes KISS) sang from the crotch, Clancy now sings simple, unpretentious ballads from the heart. The single ‘Hope in your Heart’ is a simple upbeat song of hope and optimism. It also contains as a B-side a cover of a Daniel Johnson song ‘True love will find you in the end’, a song that has been covered by both Adrian Crowley and Beck.
