Claude Channes, real name Jean Claude Champon (but also known as John Claude Chane, Claude Channer, Claude Lannes), was born in Grenoble, France, on April 27, 1943 (or 1945?). Began musical career in 1959, under the name of Jean Claude Chane, playing with Les Champions. In 1962 he joined the Les Fantomes (or Les Fantômes), replacing the rhythm guitarist of the group. After this he became a solo artist. His most famous hit was “ Mao Mao”, which was featured prominently in Jean-Luc Godard’s film “La Chinoise”, (1967). He also released a 4 track EP in 1968. As he writes on the French last.fm page: “...censorship of several of the songs and tiring of the show biz he left the capital to recharge, into a suburb of Grenoble with his family. He composed and often appears with friends from all backgrounds in cafés and concert halls.” He is still active in music, as evidenced by his myspace pages: http://www.myspace.com/jeanclaudechampon http://www.myspace.com/champonetlesgniafrons http://www.myspace.com/jccnv He also has a last.fm account: http://www.last.fm/user/nicotier Read more on Last.fm.
