Cosmic Invention

There are two Japanese bands with this name: 1) Cosmic Invention is a Japanese psychedelic rock supergroup, formed by Masaki Batoh of the psych folk group Ghost, Michio Kurihara from White Heaven, and drummer Futoshi Okano from Subvert Blaze, as well as a cast of other, similarly-minded musicians. On "Help Your Satori Mind", the results are as spectacular as one could wish -- the album plants itself in conventionally rocking psychedelia that's a little more musular than White Heaven's usual, but it also takes some folky turns that betray the Ghost involvement. More importantly, the project covers some new territory -- when tracks like "La Shorai" find atmospheric pulses that have little to do with the rock orientations of some of the involved bands, Cosmic Invention proves itself as an incredibly worthwhile project beyond the mere supergroup status. 2) Cosmic Invention (コスミック・インベンション) was an experimental synthpop band from Japan. Supposedly started out as a Yellow Magic Orchestra cover band, their signature tune, "Computer Obaachan (Grandma)", was originally written by 坂本龍一 (Ryuichi Sakamoto). The track was produced for a radio program called "Sound Street" on NHK-FM and eventually released on vinyl with "Photo Musik" as the B-side. The song remains relatively popular and has been covered by several other groups since.
