D'Stephanie is more than a steady fixture on the Belgian club scene- for about 14 years she played from New york to London to the Gambia to Rome to Paris to Amsterdam to Barcelona... for a mixed crowd ( the hip- the Royal- the young- the old- the jetset and the gettho) through the boundaries of Broken beat- nu soul- afro- House- ElectroFunk- freestyle breaks and jamaican riddems . Productions In 1999 Stephanie released her old skool funky debut maxi Work your body (1999). It was quickly recognized as a certified floor filler by several of her peers and made it's way to the underground dance music lovers around the world through export (distributed by Lowlands and SRD London). Furthermore- Stephanie collaborated on an all out Shake-your-bones remix for Belgian funkateers The Wizards of Ooze (2000) and later that year 'Get up and do it' (2000)- with vocal contributions from young Jamaican rootsmaster Rohan Lee- which was spotted by DJ Magazine- Jockey Slut- Breaksworld- Plastiks and Out Soon. September 2001 Stephanie remixed Wawadadakwa's Ayama zira into a deephouse groove featuring Melissa with the massive support of Mateo 'n Matos and appeared on several playlists and charts from the States (Red melon San Francisco Chart- KCRW playlist- Groovetech playlist- Dancetracks important restocks...) to Japan- Russia and Europe .... May 2004 D'Stephanie released a follow up ep feat Melissa on Realbasic with 'to good to be true' (demo has been played at club Glass NY- Club Shelter NY City- Miami Music conference and Groovetech ) - the single made it to the DJ magazine hypechart- had some great reviews in Echoes- Blues 'n Soul Magazine- IDJ magazine (all in the UK) and was played several times by the Dreem team in their soulfull sessions on BBC radio- Bob Jones (Chillifunk)- Marlon D ( New York)- Only Child and Alan Russel from Black Vinyl... In February 2005 Realbasic Tracks released D'Stephanie's 'if we..' with a Raw Deal and Shik Stylko remix which received again a 4 star review in IDJ magazine and was licensed on Jon Cutler and Hardsoul's 10 years of house mix cd on Milk n 2 Sugar and Stubru's Switch Compilation. April 2005 Stephanie featured on 'Kapitein Winokio zag 1 beer'- a Flemish remixproject of old Dutch spoken songs for Children where her 3 year old godchild Sientje and Philippo get dubbed out in to a reggaejam. End of April 2005 D'Stephanie feat. Melissa's next single 'Back to us' was released on Black Vinyl (UK) and licensed on Hed Kandi's beach house vol 4. End of May 2005 D'Stephanie's collaboration with realbasic's Shik Stylko and Melissa which resulted in the single 'won't fall' - released on Refunkt with seperate mixes and a MOD remix -became toptune of the month in IDJ magazine. June 2005 D'Stephanie and Philippo released their first ep 'Future warrior' on Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv label with a remix from Daz I Kue from Bugz in the Attic fame. This one became a huge hitsingle on StuBru (Belgium's comparitive to radio 1 in the UK) and the summeranthem of Pukkelpop- one of Belgium's biggest festivals .The track also made it the 8th best song of the year in Belgium and got licensed for Stubru's De maxx compilation. In september 2005 Stephanie released her 'rock the disco' and 'funk up my day' ep feat. Philippo and Melissa on London's most funky breakz label Jalapeno. This one received some wicked reviews in In the mix Australia- BBC radio- Nocturnal magazine- 247 magazine- IDJ- DMC- update- Keep on- Discoid Italy- Frencbreaks.org- Deepvibes.de- faizemusic.com plus airplay on Juice FM- Vibe FM- Galaxy FM- Essex FM- Sky Digital- STUBRU and FM brussels dayprogrammation- FM 4 Austria and the list goes on and on...This one got licensed to Stubru's Switch compilation. Januari 2006 Stephanie and Wunmi release their runaway Child ep on Chez - a funky broken beat track by the likes of Domu- Alex Attias- Jazzanova- David Borsu and dj's worldwide ... Remixes by Dave Hernandez and AEB from people records were released in May 2006 July 2006 D'Stephanie returns to a Belgian label Format with C'mon and give it / Freedom fighter ft. Philippo which became a floorfiller in the Londonclubscene October 2006 her debutalbum Droppin' it! is released on Format- including old tracks like Rock the disco- Future warrior- If we..- Funk up my day and Won't fall plus 5 brand new tracks where from the first single Rum n Bass ft. Melissa and TRoy form Broadcite records UK has become allready a massive hit on Belgian's national radio and the full album gets support from Juergen from Jazzanova- Dom Servini (wah wah records)- Raw deal- Gareth (Askew recordings)- Bruce Q from the legendary Liquid Fusion club and recieved mass media inthe benelux. Background Ever since her first appearances at the tender age of seventeen- rocking various parties for the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts (known for it's world renowned fashion department) in the early nineties- Stephanie has held her ground firmly.For seven years on end she hosted the 'Tunes from the missing Channel 'Show where she started to spin Jamaican and African inspired dance music on Antwerp's most notorious Radio Centraal.From 1993 thru 2004- Stephanie held various well respected club residencies and 7 gigs at Belgium's most famous '10 days off' festival. At the renowned Cafe d'Anvers she spun at the groundbreaking Gap Club- Positive Educations and Nu Skool Friday nights where she invited DJ's such as Gemini- A guy called Gerald- Express 2- Patrick Pulsinger - Dj Food and many more... Antwerp crowds also witnessed her do her thing at Excursions in Dance saturday nights at Surplus hosted by '5 voor 12' from 10days off at the side of Darren Emerson- Stacey Pullen- DJ Krush- Ninja Tune- Daft Punk etc. On Thursdays- for a while- she rocked Brussels very hi-tech Cybertheatre- introducing live instruments into her dj sets and worked at Mission Control- an underground recordshop owned by Nick Callingaert (Detroit). In 1999- dj Stephanie was spotted by ID Magazine (UK) as dj of the month and became one of the quintessential factors that made the Fill Collins Club (ran by Peter Decuypere - I love techno and Fuse legend) the hippest in Antwerp and beyond. After the club was sold- she moved on to maintain her momentum at Club Geluk (till end 2003)- Antwerp's finest underground club. Besides her residencies she got invited at several clubs and party's in Belgium- Holland- France- Germany- Spain- Italy...On top of all that she blesses the very stylish Flemish monthly Ché Magazine with often controversial record reviews and provides a regular dj top 10 for Out Soon and Plastiks.
