Hailing from Chicago Illinois, not a place known for its thriving D&B scene, DJ Evol has been representing drum and bass since the tender age of 14. DJing for the last 7 years and producing for 3, DJ Evol is one of the new breed of Stateside drum and bass producers heading our way. DJ Evol first heard drum and bass back in 93, just as the dark days of D&B were kicking in and jump-up was setting the standard. However, in America, the scene was still restricted to the occasional rave and warehouse party. Evol started to explore the genre through mixtapes and the few local DJs who were playing drum and bass. Finding an affinity with the trademark True Playaz jump-up vibe, as well as the sounds of Die, Roni,Krust and Dillinja, little did he know hed one day be signed to Hypes own imprint. The Playaz connection came around indirectly via Keaton, who passed through Chicago on tour. Evol passed on some tunes to him, who, in turn sent them on to Hype. Then, during Hypes visit to Chicago last year, they finally hooked up, swapping more tunes, and the rest, as they say, is history. With releases on a few small, homegrown labels, and residencies on Q101, DJ Evol also has regular slots on Bassdrive radio, and a number of club residencies in the Chicago area. Looking forward, theres more to come from Evol for the Playaz stable. Currently working on a remix of an old Pascal tune from back in the day, his track Hellboy has been tearing up dance floors in recent months and with a Frontline release also in the bag, it seems well be hearing much more from him in coming months. Dont forget to keep and eye out for him in a DJ booth near you soon, as making people dance figures high on his list of priorities. Read more on Last.fm.
