DJ Sandrinho (real name Sandro Dos Santos Lourenco), originating from the favela do Borel en Rio, started his musical career at the age of 12, following his older brother’s footsteps, DJ Sapo Pemba in the sound systems of Rio. He started deejaying regularly and playing in the community radio stations of Rio’s favelas (Borel and Prazeres). In 1999 he got selected among 50 winners of a contest to be resident dj of FURACAO 2000 (famous sound system and Carioca Funk label). From then on he played 3 timesa week in different clubs and favelas of Rio. He also presents his new productions on the radio (Impresa FM) and works regularly with A Gota and Estudio Rd Sound systems. In 2000, He became the official DJ of Mister CATRA (famous Baile Funk singer) and toured with him for 4 years all over Brazil, sometimes playing in over 30 parties in the same week ! In 2003 he played with PUBLIC ENEMY (Premiacao Hutus Cinema Festival) and still producing tracks, which are being compiled on bootleg baile funk cds. 2004 was a very important year for Sandrinho, as he was invited by Tchiky Al Dente (Favela Chic resident dj and half of Voltair production duo) for his 1st european dates (in London with DJ Patife and in Paris at Favela Chic) He then goes on tour in Brazil with MC Menor Do Chapa (star of Baile Funk). In 2005, Sandrinho went on his 2nd european tour with many dates : - Cannes Film Festival for the release party of Brazilian movie “Cidade Baixa” - RESFEST festival in Switzerland - Opening of Techno Parade in Paris - Club 103, Berlin - Nike private party, Berlin - Soho Social Club (Rio Rox party), London - Nouveau Casino, Paris - Batofar, Paris He remixes Popozuda Rock’n Roll (Essay Records), and gets some of his tracks compiled on various compilations released in Europe : Selecao do Brasil Vol. 2 (Wagram) and Favela Booty Vol.1 and 2 (Essay Records) . In 2006 he became a resident of Favela Chic, plays at the Les Arcs on the Rocks festival in France (along DJ Mehdi and Pedro Winter), and many other dates in Brazil (including Rio and Sao Paulo Fashion Week) Remix of Bonde de Rolle, Gotan Project, Diplo, Voltair etc. 2007 was a very good year for Sandrinho. His 1st 12’’ record was released in Germany (Baile Funk Master) as well as some white label records for Australia. Compiled on Postonove 4 (Favela Chic), bootlegged by Arcade Mode Still producing many original tracks, playlisted by many international djs and present on many mixtapes. Sandrinho is definitely the 1 Baile Funk producer today, he si producing an average of 5 tracks per week, which are being admired and played by all djs who like Baile Funk (DJ Diplo from Philadelphia is a big fan of his work). He doesn’t hesitate to mix traditionnal Brazilian style with more electro sounds, as well as disco and rock (he did a great remix of the Rolling Stones’ Satisfaction). He can, if he chooses to, play only his productions and plays live with an MPC. Read more on Last.fm.
