Death by Kite is an alternative, noisy rockband from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band's three founding members, Bjørn Alexander Gøtzsche Lange (vocals and guitar), Sidsel Marie Hermansen (bass and vocals) and Kristian Kimer (drums) met in autumn 2003, but it wasn’t until mid-2004 they started playing together regularly. As they came from fairly different musical backgrounds and genres, it took some time to find a sound which matched all three of them, but eventually it was the differences that turned out to be the strength of the music, in which reminiscences from bands such as Sonic Youth, Placebo, Siouxie and the Banshees, Interpol, Joy Division, Mew etc. can be found. The main threads in the music are the popish melodies sung with Lange's remarkably high, light voice as well as the noisy guitar parts and the alternative harmonies. A tight-rope walk between cold war punk, noise rock and indie rock. In the beginning of 2005 the band recorded three of their early songs, and in january 2006 four new tracks were recorded. Same year the band was signed to Quartermain Records and in 2007 their debut album, Death By Kite was released to great critical acclaim and they played the Roskilde Festival. In October 2007, Kimer decided to leave the band litterally days before the band's tour of Germany, forcing the remaining two members to cancel a line of planned gigs. Never the less a replacement was quickly found in Mikkel Holtoug of Decorate. Decorate. making it possible for the band to continue playing live. In December 2007 the band announced that this constellation was permanent. Read more on Last.fm.
