There are 2 bands named Directions: 1. On the label Thrill Jockey: http://www.thrilljockey.com/thrill/Directions/ 2. Directions are a punk band from Derby, UK. Throwing 90's emo style influences into the mix to create a unique sound. 'Directions fans of Brand New, Is Dead Era Crime In Stereo and La Dispute get stoked on them' At some point we all love to stumble upon those secret hidden gems of amazing music that make you forget the world that you are living in when you are listening to them. The kind of band that blends genres in ways that you never thought possible, creating sounds that inspire you to do just about anything, to imagine a world that you never thought was possible. The kind of band that creates sounds that pick you up and carry you to another place and let you imagine something completely different than what normally causes your day to feel like shit. Well, we found that band. A band that brings you a sort of melancholy indie jam mixed with angsty punk-hardcore, and we loved them so much that we felt it would be a crime not to share them with all of you, so that you may enjoy them as well! Power-housing from Derby Midlands, UK, we bring to you DIRECTIONS (myspace.com/directionsuk), and their name discribes exactly what they are doing. They are taking the genres they clash together to make their own unique indie-jam/hardcore-punk sound that tears off in so many new directions that we just cant get enough of it. Their "2009 Demo" features songs that periodically make you mellow out and take a journey into a subconsious that relaxes your muscles, and then brings you back down to earth with their rough heart pounding assult of powerful modern day lyrics and fast paced slamdance punk hardcore riffs that open your eyes to the world you forgot existed. This demo is packed with more emotion and heart than you could possibly expect. You can hear all the pain, anguish, love, helplessness and remorse that vocalist Ryan exudes through his powerful performance. Guitarists Ben and James really know how to tap into those melodic sounds that most bands forget, usually opting to just drop tune and distort. But not these guys, they really utilize their instruments and their talent for making sounds that are somewhat atmospheric and at the same time mental. The band also makes full use of their bass as well, with clear expression and depth in his chords. Most bands these days seem to drown out the bass lines so you could actually be fine without one, but not for Directions. You can clearly hear every bass line and really appreciate it. As for the drums, you don't hear a lot of drummers that use such simplicity and still make it sound vibrant and colorful and still go into a fast pace punk/hardcore beat that we have all grown to love. Everyone in this band has bright futures ahead of them. With the 2009 demo and a previously sold out split-cassette with No Good Reason and a City of Gold 7" due out later this year, we can only hope and expect greater things to come from this fresh young band full of talent and ready to show the world their sound. Needless to say, Directions are definetly a band worth your time. In this time where music is dwindling and the scene is flooded with tons of copycast and talentless acts, a rare jewel like this band should be cherished to the highest extent. So when their new 7" split comes out later this year, grab one from us, because we will definetly make sure we have them in stock for people who enjoy having great music in their collection. So without further ado, please give a gracious applause for Directions and download their 2009 Demo FOR ABSOLUTELY FREE!!! Hit them up. We sure as hell did. And just for those you who dig them as much as we have, a word of anticipation: we have had the very special privilege to listen to their new 7" wayyy before it hit shelves and becomes available to the public. YOU WILL BE BLOWN AWAY SO KEEP POSTED TO US AND THEM MYSPACE.COM/DIRECTIONSUK Read more on Last.fm.
