In the beginning there was only an idea. Who could have guessed that the idealism of crazy rock and roll laced with stage antics filled with humor and unity would mould a group of individuals intended to kick rock and rolls ass. The rise of Icelandic finest is a tale of wonder. Late in the last decade there were a group of artists meeting randomly at rehersal spaces to discharge the energy flowing between them. A new entity was born. This entity stayed underground for many years only to emerge once a year to play live. This went on for ten years and it seemed that Dr. Spock would eventually fade away into obscurity only to live in the collective memory of the lucky concert goers who witnessed the live massacre. In a freak coincidence Dr. Spock were asked to donate a track for the feature film Oskaborn Thjodarinnar starring the Icelandic rock singer legend Ottarr Proppe. Dr. Spock asked Mr. Proppe to sing in this track not knowing that a mystical course of action was in motion. Mr. Proppe joined the band on the spot. In 2004 Dr. Spock broke the restraint. At Iceland Airwaves festival Dr. Spock unleashed their material on to a frantic receptive crowd. Managing Director of Smekkleysa / Bad Taste records witnessed the havoc and a decision from the label's directors to sign Dr. Spock. Dr. Spock went into the studio in spring 2005 and recorded their debut album "Dr. Phil" live in one session. The album was finished in a record of 20 hours. Smekkleysa released the album in the summer of 2005 and the album received rave reviews from the music press and the band was shot to Iceland rock stardom. Dr. Spock followed the release with a string of hectic live shows around Iceland playing the smallest and biggest venues around. Dr. Spock had their fair share of touring abroad in 2006 playing Eurosonic, SXSW with additional US dates and Denmark. The band also opened for Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop & the Stooges. Dr. Spock was nominated for an Icelandic music award for best live performance and 4 nominations at the XFM radio awards. The band took home the award for best live act at the XFM awards. Dr. Spock has continued in 2006 to play live shows and work with artist Mugison on a track for the Icelandic crime film Myrin. Late in 2006 Dr. Spock went into the studio and recorded the 4 track EP The Incredible Tooth of Dr. Zoega. The first single of the release, Skitapakk hit the charts and secured the number one spot and stayed there for six weeks. Dr. Spock are currently working on new material for their follow up long player slated for release in 2007. Read more on Last.fm.
