Born in Malysia of an Indian family, Dya Singh is a Sikh singer and musician now based in Australia. He and his music group have revolutionized Sikh music by creating a new form of World music, blending East & West together while presenting the traditional message of the Sikh Gurus. He has described his group's music as "bringing Sikh music to the world and World music to the Sikhs." With Sikhism's origins in the formerly Indian state of Punjab, which has been divided between India and Pakistan since the partition of India in 1947, Dya's soaring voice and Sikh/Punjabi musical influences remind many of the Qawwali of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a man Dya both knew and admired, as well as performed with.
