A genius amalgamation of guitar rock and bedroom programming, Dykehouse (born Michael Dykehouse) is a one-man army of musical ideas and innovation. Hailing from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Dykehouse went on to start recording IDM-styled tracks in the mid-90s before attending art school. After sending his infamous Diet Glue EP demo to Planet Mu (the label run by Mike Paradinas AKA Mu-Ziq), many of Dykehouse’s collected works were compiled to form his debut album. Dynamic Obsolescence won him a place among the international electronic community, simultaneously earning a slot at the inaugural Detroit Electronic Music Festival. After hearing Dykehouse’s brilliant cover of the Wire (via My Bloody Valentine) song “Map Ref. 41° N 93° W” (which later appeared on Ghostly’s Idol Tryouts compilation), Mike was brought on to join Ghostly International’s summer 2002 tour. Dykehouse continued to expand his musical vocabulary, combining shoegazer, pop, funk and IDM into a sum-is-greater-than-its-parts mix, ultimately resulting in 2004’s excellent Midrange LP. With a bedroom setup that is solely computer/guitar/mic, he operates in a hermetic world of craftsman-like focus, venturing out to perform karaoke around his current hometown Ann Arbor.
