The Eastern Screech Owl or Eastern Screech-Owl (Megascops asio) is a small owl that is relatively common in Eastern North America, from Mexico to Canada. It released it's first album Hoot in 1981 which became a sensation in the owl community and contained such hits as "Hoot'a Known" and "Hoot (Hoot Hoot)". The album was heralded for its unique take on owlcore which incorporated hootcore and Eastern Screech-Owl's unique "screech" vocals. Unfortunately, Eastern Screech-Owl was unable to live up to it's potential. On August 4, 1982, Eastern Screech-Owl was found dead in its New England home of an apparent overdose. Although Screech's life was cut so tragically short, its legacy lives on. Such bands as Owls and Andrew Bird have cited it as an influence and Hootie & The Blowfish get even got their name form its landmark album. Read more on Last.fm.
