The crown holder of Washington Heights, NYC - El-Fudge - is an emcee whose feats many have been unsuccessful to match. Born and raised in the uptown section of Manhattan, Elvin Rosario aka El-Fudge (obtaining his name from the famous Keebler cookie cartoon character) always had a passion for rhyming, but mainly just for fun. After he started spitting at neighborhood parties and receiving mucho props he decided to have his words heard by a bigger audience. Calling into Mayhem & Sunset's underground radio show on 89.1FM in NY, Fudge could always be heard rhyming on the air via the telephone and eventually the hosts invited him as a guest on the live show - multiple times - showcasing his uncanny off the dome freestyle ability. In late 1996 hardcore hip hop fans might remember strange small side-column ads in The Source for a then-unknown little label with a razor blade logo. During the early stages of what has become Rawkus Records - it was built with a strong foundation of classic 12" singles from artists like Mos Def, Reflection Eternal, Sir Menelik, Shabaam Sahdeeq and "L-Fudge". Fudge gained his first record deal and in 1997 released his highly selling debut single "Liquid" b/w" Show Me Your Gratitude" & "What If?". The world had then become introduced to El-Fudge and his microphone antics. Many fans are confused over his sudden name-spelling change from "L" Fudge to "EL" Fudge, but the latter was actually how it was originally intended to be spelled - only because of Rawkus' legal worries over the Keebler-copyrighted character. Fudge has since moved on to bring back his original name. Over the past 5 years, Fudge has released a plethora of material to his underground fans, has toured all over the world and has collaborated with everyone from Talib Kweli to UK pop band Another Level. He has performed with the likes of Gang Starr, De La Soul, Pharoahe Monch, and Mos Def and received critical acclaim in such magazines as The Source & Vibe. He has blazed many mix tape and radio freestyles and worked with such producers as DJ Spinna, Vinyl Reanimators, Stoupe (Jedi Mind Tricks), Unsung Heroes, Rich Boogie, and many more. He released a full length album in late 2000 entitled "Chronic Irresponsibility" on CD and double vinyl on the UK-based Sure Shot Records - and, after years of chillin' with fellow emcees Apathy, Celph Titled and Louis Logic, he also became a part of the Demigodz family in 2001 and was featured on the wild-out posse cut, "The Godz Must Be Crazy". Now, with a new label - Illustrious Entertainment, Fudge plans to continue to take his music to the next level and broaden his audience to the absolute maximum. Always sharp, witty, and with a hilarious sense of humor, you can always tell when El-Fudge blesses a track. Many things wait ahead in the future for his music, including new singles, a new approach to the rap game and of course more collaborations with his Demigodz associates. Definitely be sure to check out www.illustriousent.com for more info and don't say you never heard the "Cinnamon Dominican" beat you over the face with his words! Read more on Last.fm.
