Ernest Phipps and His Holiness Singers were present at the same sessions (recorded by Ralph Peer in Bristol, Tennessee) that also functioned as the debut for the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, and the Stoneman Family. The group had journeyed from an Anglo-American church in Kentucky, and recorded several sides for Bluebird during the late '20s. "Shine on Me" was included on Harry Smith's 1952 folksong compendium Anthology of American Folk Music, and also appear on the Country Music Foundation compilation The Bristol Sessions.
