Ex Norwegian is an indie rock band who formed in Miami Beach, FL in 2008. The band name is a Monty Python reference, and its current line-up consists of Roger Houdaille (vocals and bass guitar), Lucas Queiroz (guitar and vocals), Michelle Grand (vocals) and Alex Ibanez (drums). Previous band members include Nina Souto (bass and vocals) and Arturo Garcia (drums). Ex Norwegian launched at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City 2008 mere months after their formation, and released two singles: the irresistible Shins-styled folk-pop “Something Unreal” and the 7” vinyl release “Dance Trance Pants” which falls neatly somewhere in between The Killers and seventies glam epitomized by bands like T. Rex. The enthusiastic response to these singles was accompanied by numerous live performances throughout the US in addition to an appearance on European TV network Sky News where the band performed before millions of viewers excited by the group’s youthful energy and sound described as an “…eclectic mix of powerpop, shoegaze, indie rock, and even hints of stoner rock" by Exploding In Sound. Their debut album, Standby, was released in March 2009 on the newly formed Dying Van Gogh label. The band and album attracted the attention and support from the press, with exposure in Boston Globe, Miami Herald and countless blogs and publications. The band spent the summer of 2009 touring and working new material, with a digital single "Mind Down" being released in September. During this time, their second guitarist Billie G left the group. Ex Norwegian's second album, Sketch, came out June 22, 2010 on the small Miami Beach Dippy imprint. It has been called a masterpiece by Broward/West Palm Beach New Times. The trio toured the United States in support of the record. January 2011, Ex Norwegian added guitarist Lucas Queiroz and original vocalist Michelle Grand came back to the band. This line-up played its final show on March 24, 2011. Dying Van Gogh Records has re-released the bands second album, Sketch, in November 2011 including a brand new track, Girl With The Moustache. With a new line-up, Ex Norwegian released a new album, House Music in October 2012. Visit their official page at www.exnorwegian.com. Read more on Last.fm.
