There are at least two bands with the name Fibonacci: 1. A former australian improvisation band, based in Melbourne, and active from 2004 to 2006. 2. A venezuelan rock band, based in Caracas, formed in 2008. 1. Fibonacci were a band based in Melbourne, Australia, from early 2004 to 2006. They consisted of Troy Naumoff (Ants) on guitar, Ben Butcher (Baseball, Assassinations Collective, Jihad Against America) on guitar, Irit Rozenfeld (Cor'delle, Oblako Lodka) on bass guitar/keyboard/melodica/voice, and Jon Tjhia (Scissors for Sparrow, ii) on drums/sampler. There were a couple of rules which Fibonacci loosely applied throughout their life as a band. The first was that all music played was to be completely improvised. Secondly, guest players were to be incorporated in each show (in reality, the group played a handful of shows without guests). The resulting sound traversed genres of post-rock, noise-rock, post-punk, ambient music, faux-dub, drone, and fake jazz. Guest players included guitarists, saxophonists, cellists, and additional drummers. While no official recordings were released, there are a number of tape recorded live sets circulating on CD-R, as well as recordings from their two live-to-air performances on local community stations PBS-FM and 3CR-AM. Fibonacci also toured to Sydney in September 2005. The group disbanded after Rozenfeld left the band, and its members are now pursuing other projects. 2. Fibonacci is a life-project-music-band that conglomerates the ideas, sensibilities and most sincere approaches of each of its members. The music of this band develops and incorporates heterogeneous rhythmic, melodic and harmonic resources to achieve a sound that ranges from minimal and saturation. Experimentation is the word to define them. The band formed in 2008, in Caracas, Venezuela; and consists of Baldomero Verdú (vocals, guitar, percussion), Harry Febres (guitar), Sergio Barreto (guitar), Alejandro Rivero (bass) and José Manuel Nuñez (drums).
