Originally known as The Country Cousins, Forever Amber was formed in the mid 1960s in Cambridge, England. For much of its existence, the band played covers at local ballrooms, US air bases and Cambridge colleges, but in 1968 Forever Amber recorded a 16 track concept album called "The Love Cycle", written by local musician John Hudson. Only 99 copies were pressed (to avoid purchase tax)and original copies now change hands for many hundreds of pounds. Sadly, the band imploded in 1969, but in the 1980s the album became a cult classic, particularly amongst fans of British psychedelia. In the 1990s it was bootlegged in the US and the UK. Its first official release on summer 2007 on Wooden Hill records was greeted by enthusiastic reviews in the London Times, Record Collector, Shindig, etc. It is listed by the London Guardian as one of the "1000 albums you must hear before you die" and by Record Collector as one of the 100 greatest psychedelic albums. The band members who appear in the photograph are, from left to right, Graham Jenkinson (drums); Chris Jones (rhythm guitar and vocals); Mick Richardson (lead vocals); Dick Lane (lead guitar and vocals); Chris Parren (keyboards and vocals); Tony Mumford (bass guitar and vocals).
