Freyia

There are some artists who bring something totally different to each and every song: Freyia is one such artist who brings something new and exciting to everything she does. Her music blends effortlessly together, alternative-pop-electronica-rock to create something blissful and almost otherworldly! Freyia has an interest in mythology and religion and has pursued this interest in her studies graduating from the University of Foreign Languages and Literatures, where her final thesis was aptly entitled ‘The Feminine Element in the Scandinavian Mythology’. Freyia’s musical interests were ignited at a very early age. At the age of three she was given a harmonica from her grandfather. At the age of ten she was given a guitar and a violin. Freyia’s music allows her to express herself through words set to music. At first she sang with some bands in Boston (US) and composed songs. It is easy to see where her influences come from: her songs are filled with Scandinavian and Lappish traditional folk themes and music. As time moved on her music became more focused on electronica-like sounds, although there were still many undertones of traditional folk music shinning through in her songs. Freyia continued her musical education studying practically and theoretically Lappish singing: Kulning and Joik. These special high-pitched Nordic vocal techniques have deeply inspired her music, the physiological and acoustical characteristics of them are simply amazing and she has always experimented nature of sounds deep in the forests. She describes singing as a suspension of material ego, a stream of consciousness, a sort of shamanist ekstasis. The techniques she learnt appeared in her first single Mist. Freyia is working towards releasing an album of her music and has already released several more singles following the success of Mist and the airplay it received on radio stations like BBC Radio One. Mist was in fact released in fourteen countries all over the world and remixed by Cicada (Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, New Order, Chicane, LeAnn Rimes, The Veronicas, and many more). Freyia has currently finished recording and mastering her Debut Album “Reverie”! The release of the Album is soon to come and she is currently performing live in the most amazing and historical London Venues. This album is going to offer listeners so much. The 11 songs are magical and powerful interludes, taking the listener to a place where they can escape from their troubles and the pace of real life into a world of ecstasy and raw organic energy. Freyia has recently announced New Release for her EP *Wantage*. The track list includes 4 songs, the radio edit, 2 remixes, and an acoustic live version recorded in London! Her highly original music is pretty unclassifiable actually, but Freyia effectively delves into upbeat dance music and with this EP she clearly celebrates her return to Electronica! But she is clearly an innovator, and with “Wantage”she shows how electronic sounds can be used in the service of grandiose emotion instead of just mood setting. Freyia’s otherworldly voice, which is high-pitched and always highly emotive, is what links all of these songs together. A completely original singer whose voice exudes a fae-like sense of wonder, Freyia’s unusual vocal phrasings and lyrics will probably have you wondering if she’s from another planet. “Wantage” is also a signal to old fans that Freyia is about to come back in style. She is absolutely delighted with this EP, which mixes hard, crushing dance beats that are both ghostly and compelling, with all the spacey electronic sounds she’s been fascinated with since 2009s MIST! “Wantage” delivers another edgy dance excursion after the massive success of her single “MIST” (Virgin/EMI) played indeed by Pete Tong and Judge Jules on BBC Radio 1 and many more!
