Cali Bay Area rapper Mac Shawn led the Sick Wid It signees Funk Mobb , a short-lived group that released just one album, It Ain't 4 Play (1996). Sick Wid It was a noteworthy rap label at the time, distributed by Priority and also home to E-40 and the Click . Despite the Sick Wid It association and the Priority distribution, Funk Mobb (comprised also of G-Note and K-1 ) unfortunately enjoyed little success. Shawn thus embarked on a solo career beginning with Music fo the Mobb (1997) and signed to the soon-to-collapse Death Row Records soon after, while his group mates fell into obscurity.
