Formed in 2003, Greg Poppleton & his Bakelite Dance Band play the classic songs that defined the Swing Era & Jazz Age. These songs by Gershwin, Porter, Hoagy Carmichael and more are sung by Greg Poppleton in authentic 1920s & 30s dance band style Based in Sydney, all band members are long-time professional Jazz & Swing musicians who have toured the US and around the World In 2003, Greg Poppleton released a 4 track CD entitled Greg Poppleton & his Bakelite Broadcasters This was followed up in 2006 by the CD release: The Phantom Dancer: 14 Swing Era Songs of 1926 - 1939 The CD was named for Greg's award winning radio show, The Phantom Dancer, where he plays swing, jazz and dance from live 1920s - 60s radio & TV broadcasts. On air since 1985, The Phantom Dancer won Best Music Show in Australia, 2007 in the annual CBAA Awards Greg Poppleton & his Bakelite Dance Band play for swing dancers in the Sydney area and at historic events associated with the 1920s & 30s. These historic events include the 75th Anniversary celebrations of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the relaunch of the art deco Rose Bay Promenade & the 60th Anniversary celebrations for Film Australia Read more on Last.fm.
