Gypsy Sun & Rainbows is a band formed in June 1969 by legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix after bassist Noel Redding left Hendrix's original group "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" to start his own group, Fat Matress. After Redding's departure, Hendrix immediately sought out an old war buddy, Billy Cox, to replace Redding. This short-lived group's most well known performance was that at Woodstock in 1969, Hendrix being the headline attraction. Later that year, drummer Mitch Mitchell left the group. Replaced by Buddy Miles, The Band Of Gypsys was formed and persisted until Jimi Hendrix's tragic death on September 18th, 1970. Read more on Last.fm.
