Starting in the late September of 2009, Brisbane band 'I AM VILLAIN' is growing by the day. The 5 piece have only been together for a short time, but their dynamic infusion of pop-punk and melodic hardcore is starting to make waves in the local scene. The members Andy Power (vocals), Peter Eckel (guitar/vocals), Lewis Usher (guitar), Scott Eckel (drums) and Brett Galea (bass) all come from different musical backgrounds from punk and hardcore to classical/orchestral training and it all adds to the inventiveness of their sound. Drawing influence from bands like Blink-182, Four Year Strong and Set Your Goals, one gets a sense of what to expect, but these guys continue to surprise and impress the crowds with their unique spin and energetic live shows. After only a handful of shows, I Am Villain can already lay claim to an impressive resume of supports for such a young band, having shared the stage with US pop-punksters MEST as their first ever live show, as well landing a support show with FIREWORKS on their recent tour of Aus. Also the boys have backed some well established Australian groups including Short Stack, Heroes for Hire and Ellington and the list is growing… Before the guys could even settle into playing shows, the word spread, and a call from Loose Stones Studios on the Gold Coast saw them rushed straight in to start work on their debut EP. Their first single “Frankly My Dear, I Don’t Give A Damn” has been released to an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and has certainly stirred some attention within the industry. We can expect their EP some time soon and safe to say, we all have very high hopes for these new kids on the block. Read more on Last.fm.
