No one could give the right definition for the emotional state that occurs when one listens to INDIGA. It is impossible to define the feelings of a person who saw INDIGA for the first time. It seems that breathing gets stuck in your throat and it is better to chew it slowly, to feel its taste but not to swallow right away. Their music can not be understood from the very beginnings of their songs. It is complicated and elusive, melodious and furious, unpredictable and carefully made. Their music is free of superfluity and luxury, but it is based on solid ground that smells of abstractionism. Their music can tempt, temperate and obstinate, fuddle a gourmet… As a rule everything has its starting point. Let’s touch INDIGA. So… Monday Two musicians were looking for each other. A bass player and a drummer started to search. They found a guitar player but still could not find a vocalist. They even were not sure what kind of vocalist they were looking for in the first place. Then somebody noticed her, a female looking for a band. Rusia… Then they got together with her and she became the last point of their searching trip. She has a nice Slavonic name, charisma and a strong desire to work. And thus, she became a member of the INDIGA family: Aleksey Pavlovich – bass Andrej Goncharik – drums Dmitry Demidoff – guitar Marusia (Rusia) - vocal Tuesday INDIGA began to play lots of concerts and from the very first gig they were predicted to be stars. Strong voice and complicated and intriguing lyrics full of symbolism and metaphors. Rusia cites her favorite Russian modernists and post modernists. They play and get better from gig to gig. Wednesday Summer 2003. INDIGA prepares songs for the annual international festival BASOWISZCZA that takes place in Poland. Started as a band with Russian lyrics they ask a young Belarusian author for help. The band decides to sing in the Belarusian language to promote their native language in a country with a complicated political period. INDIGA is ready to be banned like dozens of Belarusian bands. But INDIGA is far from politics in their texts. Their songs bring different moods and only in interview Rusia allows herself to speak freely about the political disaster. BASOWISZCZA is called “Poland Woodstock” by its visitors and mass media. The victory at BASOWISZCZA 2003 gave INDIGA chance to record a CD. The Radio Bialostok Record Studio “REMBRANDT” worked for 20 hours to make the first maxi single for INDIGA band. After the festival Rusia was labeled as sex symbol of Belarusian rock music and INDIGA became the most popular band in Belarusian Internet. Thursday The band changed their bass guitar player. Aleksey Pavlovich leaves the band on the eve of a very important concert with the Russian band Butch. It seemed like everything crashed down in a moment. But the problem was solved by a famous musician Dmitry Ostrovski, who left two projects to work with INDIGA. The strategy of his conquest was long and intricate. INDIGA was refreshed and ready to work hard. The band plays a wonderful concert with Butch and the city press discusses the gig for a long time. Now INDIGA is: Marusia Shukiurava (Rusia) (vocals) : A charming diplomat that smoothes stumbling blocks inside the band and keeps them together. Vladzimir Beher (drums) : He is a maestro of drums, not more. A scorcher. A chatter box like dozens of drummers. Dmitry Demidof (guitar): Sophist. He is sure that there are no happy songs and even “Jingle Bells” was written in shadow of depression. He is the “brain” of the band. He knows for sure what to do because he never makes quick decisions. Logician. Dmitry Ostrovski (bass guitar): He is a hot head! Ostrovski is sick with Shamanism, ancient cultures and sport. Friday The demo of INDIGA went to Moscow where gained good comments and reviews. Moscow was waiting for the meeting to understand just who the hell INDIGA from Belarus really are. Indiga was the very first belarusian band to be invited to the Moscow festival “Rock Derzhava”! But despite the band being flattered by the invitation, they decided to stay home and finish their debut album's recording. INDIGA’s aim was to promote the Belarusian language and to work in Belarus without looking at the temptation of Russian showbusiness. Saturday In July 22, 2004 the debut CD of INDIGA was born! The name of the CD was “Dni” that means “Days” in the Belarusian language. The album includes 7 tracks like the seven days of the week. The whole week is a symbolic cycle of the band’s life. The album has a bonus track. It goes as “ bonus day” and presents a cover version of a famous Belarusian band Novaje Nieba, who’s mission was to promote Belarusian authors and ideas of democracy. When one plays this CD they feel how slowly music goes inside their mind. There is drive, strong female vocal and some mystery. Their music is individual and independent. Every song sends its own idea and songs create one big conception together. 7 days and 7 songs. It is their life which you can live together. Monday – Try Soncy (three suns). The song describes the moment when Rusia appeared in the band as a newcomer. The “three suns” are the three men around her. Three musicians. Morning and Evening in couplets symbolize bright and dark periods of creation of music. Sometimes she can write honest songs but sometimes she can not give a birth to a line. “Three winds on a scaffold”- are three songs which were ready when she joined the band and she had to decide whether they should live or not. “Three wings on a scaffold”- are her expectations. It was her dream to sing in a band and no one knows whether her dream will fly high or fall down. Tuesday – Ver' Mne. (Believe me). Rusia confessed that this very song was written for a man she loves in a trouble period of their relationship. Everything is clear. A fragile young woman is trying to gain confidence of her friend but she understands that it is extremely difficult to trust a woman. Wednesday – Nachny Shpacyr.(night walks). Sometimes it happens that you are sick and tired of thinking, and night walks are the only way out. It is great to lounge through a night city and to breathe night life in or to catch the pulse of sleepy nature. Maybe you will be lucky to hear what the lonely wind whispers in your ear. Who knows… Thursday - WWW. You won’t find links to a web site of the band here. But you will notice that almost every word of the song begins with “V” letter. It is a song of sorrow. It is despair hidden behind “linguistic exercises”. Friday – Geta nia vazhna.(no matters). Pretend that you are a butterfly which is trying to understand the sense of human life. No. The butterfly doesn’t want to be a man. She is just an observer. She is getting sad because of watching. She only hopes that everything will be better. Here lyrics of Velimir Hlebnikov’s are used. The author whom Rusia adores. Saturday – Tanga na krai.(Tango on the edge) From the very beginning it seems that the song is a usual happy and a bit foolish one. But when one swallows the sense of lyric he understands that it is more complicated than “merry song with Latino taste”. The song warns people who are at the edge of drug addiction. No. There are no stupid slogans like “No drugs!” or something like “Drugs are bad!”. There is a symbolic “dance in a bamboo room with mirrors and white powder and sandal boy. But be careful dancing tango on the edge”. Sunday - Ludzi.(People). Love hides many dangerous reefs under the luring, fresh canvas of water and it is easy not to notice them when you are in love. It is difficult to choose the right way for your ship of love. And if the route was chosen right, you will teach yourself to love how only Gods can love. Bonus Day - Cepeliny.( dirigibles). It is a cover version of a song of the band Novaje Nieba. Originally the song talks about the tragic life story of two friends who were military aviators. But with INDIGA the song tolls how inconvenient it is to fly with this very means of air transport. Here the song doesn’t look like a cover. But Novaje Nieba happily agreed with “such fresh interpretation” of their song. Sunday. Live concerts of INDIGA are like explosions of emotions and drive and charming revelation of the charismatic and extraordinary vocalist. She has a deep female manner and it is in her power to make you love her. You must see it! It is really worth doing. Strange details, when you listen to a CD of INDIGA you think it’s a nice band and nothing special. But when you see them live you quickly change your mind and can’t leave the club. INDIGA do not only honestly present their music - they live through their songs with listeners. And when the concert is over you will feel thirst for their music again and again.
