Jason Freeman, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, is a singer, guitarist and passionate keeper of America’s musical flame. Moving seamlessly between past and present, his original songs mix the wisdom and lamentations of long-ago bluesmen with the raucous release in rock’s unbridled beginnings, drawing them into an electric and untamed space that is truly his own. Freeman’s relevant, penetrating sound is informed by years of constant play and study—fronting the jug band-inspired Bluff City Backsliders, backing fellow songwriters, and countless bread-and-butter solo gigs in the United States and Europe. Freeman has also worked on several film projects. He wrote the score for MTV’s “Savage County,” contributed tracks to Craig Brewer’s “Hustle & Flow,” and served as a daylong tutor for Samuel L. Jackson as the actor studied for his bluesman role in Brewer’s “Black Snake Moan.” In 2011, Freeman’s song “Magic in My Home” was featured in Paramount Pictures’ remake of “Footloose,” and appears on its soundtrack. Through Freeman’s voice, history is not just learned, but felt—not appropriated, but channeled. The best of American musical traditions are gathered within him to be reborn. “Hex & Hell” is his first record. ReverbNation: Jason Freeman Read more on Last.fm.
