Genre: Alternative Metal Hometown: Lufkin, Texas Joel Stop Him is innovative, aggressive, and melodic dual-guitar hardrock/metal with vocals that do it all-- for fans of Deftones, Tool, Rage Against The Machine, Zao, etc. Crockett, TX (named after Davy Crockett of Alamo fame) is known for it's historic homes and its annual fiddler's festival. It's certainly not known for it's hard rock scene, but that didn't stop five high-school friends from forming the dual-guitar metal-inspired rock outfit known as Joel Stop Him. It all started with a four-song demo. The mix of driving melodies, metal-style riffs, and passionate vocals connected instantly with local kids and solidified the band's presence. "One of our first shows was our high-school talent show," remembers frontman Dusty Douglas. "We got up there with our amps and our drums and started screaming. Some of the grandparents where squirming in their seats but the kids were into it, they had never seen anything like us." Staunch advocates for the independent artist, the members of JSH prefer to do everything themselves. So, it came as no surprise that when the band began work on their first album in 2003 that it would be produced entirely in-house. Guitarist Chad Snider explains, "We're obsessive about our stuff. We'd been to some other studios and were not happy with the sound and decided that we would always do everything ourselves. The other issue was money, in our own studio we can spend the entire night working on tracks and nobody's shoving a bill in our face." So does that mean that JSH would never sign on the dotted line? "We'd love some record label money," Dusty says with a grin. "No doubt," Chad agrees. "And it'd be great to work with some awesome producer too. Just as long as we could maintain creative control. That's an absolute must for this band."
