To find out more about Jof 87, just look for him in Google - You'll soon find him... Once referred to by BBC 6 Music as 'J. of 87', the confusingly named Jof 87 is essentially Jon Fordham (nicknamed 'Jof' many years ago), with occassional help from other musicians. He just happened to be the 87th Jof to sign up for a hotmail account one day. After that, it just stuck and became the band name.....Oh, and because previous experiences of trying to agree on band names left him scarred, so he took what seemed like an easy option. Before '93, he'd never really played anything live, but whilst on a year-long travel stint he decided that he’d have to go busking in Australia, and form an originals band on his return to the UK. This band was called The Untold, and gigged around London, at various venues including The Mean Fiddler, The Rock Garden and The Marquee. He was in a few other groups before Jof 87, including The Neal Hoffmann Band (which later went on to become Amphibic), Shine, Core and Orangestuff (indie covers band formed in Cyprus) He normally writes songs on the acoustic guitar, and then when it comes to recording, makes up the other bits as he goes. 'Better Than That', the debut album from Jof 87, was recorded mainly on 8-track reel-to-reel in Zakaki Studios (his spare room when he lived in Cyprus). Since then he's recorded another album on a 16-track digital workstation in his basement, and written enough songs for a 3rd album. But actually, I reckon there are still a few people left in the world who have yet to hear 'Better Than That', so check that out first! Read more on Last.fm.
