Little Majorette are now releasing a laboriously selected set of arresting songs which are part of a greater treasure, containing years of collected recordings. It may count as a debut, but the band members are all well established in the music industry. The product of their collaboration is a sonic feast and we wouldn't expect anything less from the creative minds behind this setup. The band's nucleus core, consisting of ZOE DURRANT, PETTER WINNBERG and NILS TORNQVIST, met in a friend's studio during a recording session and decided to have a go at writing songs for other artists together. Before long, they realized the music they made was a fingerprint match to their own personal style. It just sounded better when they performed it. Songs returned to sender, they formed a band and took the name Little Majorette becoming one had been a childhood dream of Zoe's. All members of the trio are deeply rooted within their respective music-scenes. Zoe Durrant is the former vocalist of indie Londoners Havana Guns and has appeared on a number of other recordings, notably the British Trip Hop act Sneaker Pimps' "Bloodsport" release. Petter Winnberg and Nils Tornqvist were both in the iconic Icelandic Reggae rockers Hjalmar and continue to work side by side in the touring ensemble of the Swedish-American supergroup Miike Snow the latter for whom Little Majorette was the opening act on their Swedish tour. Other side projects include Winnberg producing Fibes Oh Fibes and Tornqvist drumming for Lykke Li. All namedropping aside, their hearts always remained in the studio in Stockholm. Between live gigs and other engagements, Little Majorette went about recording countless hours of material, not really giving any thought to releasing it. Maybe it's the curse of the true artistic mind that the desire to create overshadows the will to expose your creation. The band has somewhat of an organic touch to it, a go-with-the-flow approach to their artistry. Friends will come and go on stage, and live sets may differ in constellation from day to day. There is no slick marketing plan, no created image or rigid set of rules to be followed. Yet it's all there. The image lies in the musicality, in the strong character of the sound and of the performers. To the majorettes, whatever feels good and genuine is simply the right way to go. A refreshing realness and earthbound attitude in the ever-accelerating music business, where today's IT easily becomes tomorrow's WHAT? What we will be enjoying now is a first sneak peak into Little Majorette's secret world of melodic bliss. Read more on Last.fm.
