Lost Soul Refuge is an instrumental hip hop artist from London, U.K. Specializing in a particularly dark, atmospheric form of what some would call trip hop/downtempo. Formed in 2003 and is the latest of many projects which have come and gone since 1987. Influences include early hip hop & electro, post punk synth pop, industrial & gothic rock, metal and film soundtracks. Although no physical products are available, LSR continues to provide music through various websites such as myspace, soundcloud, bandcamp and facebook. In recent years LSR has released music digitally on european net labels, the first of these releases was "The Calling" e.p released in 2008 on the now defunkt Groundfloor records. The e.p. "Black Orchid" followed in 2009 released by the highly regarded Bulgarian net label Dusted Wax Kingdom and has become somewhat of an underground classic. In the latter part of 2010 came the "Neon" e.p. released by the same label featuring the turntablism of DJ Tones on two of the tracks. In 2011 new music emerged from Dre70 who is the man behind Lost Soul Refuge, according to various blogs the Dre70 project will be the main focus for a while as LSR takes a break. An e.p. "Easy listening" by Dre70 was released in the summer of 2011 on the previously mentioned net label Dusted Wax Kingdom. After an 18 month haitus Lost Soul Refuge returned with the "Damaged" e.p. said to be a musical document of the troubles and turmoil the artist was experiencing in his personal life, track titles such as "Paradise Lost" and "Crown of thorns" speak for themselves. The e.p. was released in May 2012 on Dusted Wax Kingdom. Later the same year a remix of the track "Black Orchid" surfaced by the Canadian beatsmith Mr Moods. Also late in 2012 Lost Soul Refuge undertook remixing duties for the British hip hop collective Drunken Eejit, their track "Quicker on the liquor" got the LSR treatment. November 2013 saw the release of "Equinox" the first full length effort from LSR. Once again released by Dusted Wax Kingdom it contains 9 tracks and is considered by many to be a return to form and a direct descendant of the classic "Black Orchid" e.p. Notable tracks include "Resonate", "Ravenscourt" and "White Rose" all receiving heavy "rotation" on various websites. An e.p. "Requiem" surfaced in May 2014, released by Dusted Wax Kingdom it contained 4 tracks, all particularly sombre and all it seems influenced by the death of the artists mother which he wrote about on LSR's Facebook page.
