Marzipan is both 1. A character in the Homestar Runner series of animated cartoons, and 2. A short lived garage pop band from San Francisco. 1) The Marzipan featured in the cartoon series ‘Homestar Runner’ is the only real female in the series, she is Homestar Runner’s girlfriend, and is named after the confection marzipan. She resembles a bell, broom, or a baseball bat wearing a skirt. Marzipan’s personality is based on number of stereotypes regarding a typical American liberal college student / activist type. She is a folk singer, pacifist, and vegetarian, and loves horses. Strong Bad likens her to “a dirty hippie - without the dirt”. She has no visible hands, but is still able to manipulate things in the world around her as if she had hands for no adequately explored reason. Her acoustic guitar “Carol” is a prized possession. Homestar doesn’t seem to really understand his relationship with her and as a result, Marzipan is occasionally upset by Homestar’s ineptitude. Over time, Marzipan has become more independent, and in one cartoon she became so annoyed with Homestar that she announced that she was breaking up with him (although it was apparently rescinded after Strong Bad was found to be at fault). Marzipan’s answering machine is an audio-only feature of the site where the other characters leave awkward or amusing messages. Often they involve Strong Bad posing as someone else as a prank, Homestar apologizing for his most recent blunder, and the occasional message from one of the other male characters who is desperate for female companionship. Strong Bad’s pranks may be having an effect on Marzipan, as she has called herself to prank herself so she wouldn’t feel bad when someone else did so. She also shows signs of depression, such as accusing herself of eating dirt. Unlike most of the characters in the series, Marzipan is not voiced by Matt Chapman. She is instead voiced by Missy Palmer. In an interview, Palmer stated that Marzipan’s personality has changed to match her own. Marzipan was originally envisioned as the King of Town’s daughter, but this is no longer really upheld and is not part of the Homestar Runner canon. 2) The band Marzipan were a short lived garage pop band from San Francisco during the 1990s. They released one single in 1992 on Echonet Records: "I Believe" b/w "Last Train To The Sun." Read more on Last.fm.
