Matthew was born & bred in the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina, and thus has a deep appreciation for the folk and bluegrass music that has been played in those hills for generations. Taking those influences, he mixes a unique blend of folk & rock, singable tunes full of emotion, energy, and rhythm. Citing 90s singer songwriter influences such as Sheryl Crow, Shawn Mullins, Shawn Colvin, Natalie Merchant, and, more recently, Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, and Andy Davis, Matthew's own songs are full of stories put to music. At times deeply personal, he writes about the topics you'd expect a southern folk-rocker to sing about, but with a fresh perspective on love and loss, hope and fear. Vocally, he can pull a punch with a powerful tenor just as easily as he can lay down reflective and moody melodies on quieter tracks. Think John Mayer meets Elliott Smith. Now playing southern California from his home base of San Diego, Matthew continues to croon with his acoustic guitar, bringing melody to the masses. Read more on Last.fm.
