Monti

MONTI (Gabriel Montufar) began playing the saxophone in elementary school; from then on music would become the most important aspect of his life. In his early years as a musician he performed for various jazz and rock/pop groups, which made him take the decision to study music in Berklee College of Music (Boston, Massachusetts). Electronic music was always something special for Monti and as his musical taste evolved and refined itself, he got involved and graduated in the areas Music Synthesis and Music Production & Engineering. During his studies at Berklee, Monti produced various dance tracks, which would eventually take him to intern with BT (Brian Transeau) in Los Angeles, California. BT is considered one of the creators of trance, and stands out as being one of the best and respected DJ's in the world. He has worked together with Sasha, Deep Dish, Tiesto, and many other big names. After finishing his internship with BT, together with Sebastian Jacome, Monti founded Deskarado Records, label dedicated to the production of high quality electronic music. At this same time the producer began his DJ career in Ecuador’s electronic scene. First he would join the artist Sabad to create the duo Sabad & Monti, which had a lot of success, participating in shows with Ferry Corsten and in the South American Music Conference (SAMC) 2005, Quito, Ecuador chapter. After this Monti would take his own road, and in the second half of 2005 and in 2006 he participated in events with Seb Fontaine, Edward Allen, DJ Uma, as well as in the 2005 South American Music Conference chapter Quito, Ecuador. Besides this, Monti had various shows during this time him being the main artist. Monti's first record, "Voices Within", was released late 2006 under Deskarado Records. The single "Voices Within" reached 1st place in the international countdown of "Radio La Bruja" (the biggest radio station in Ecuador) for 2 consecutive weeks. The track was also placed #78 on the top 100 songs of the year. The official release for Monti's record occurred December 9th, 2006 at Club Blues, Quito's most exclusive electronic music club. The album "Voices Within" can now be found on iTunes, Napster, Release Records, Juno Records, and many other digital download stores. 2007 was a great year for Monti, who began touring Ecuador. Club Blues that usually brings 2 international DJ's per month, booked one of these spots for Monti because of his success. Besides this, during 2007 Monti opened for Tiesto (one of the world's most renown DJ) for more than 6000 people, Gabriel & Dresden (duo form San Francisco, know worldwide for their music), and Hed Kandi (British group that tours the world with its exclusive parties). Currently, Monti's performances are done live with his Laptop and Ableton's expanding LIVE software. Monti is different form other DJ's because he doesn't just play tracks, but controls and creates music on the spot. Besides this, Monti is a professional musician, which has helped his transmit his energy on stage, his main attribute as a DJ.
