"Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) may well be the most famous jazz guitarist of all time. His music had an enormous influence on the swing-musette style, and in 1934, with violinist Stéphane Grappelli, he founded the Quintette Du Hot Club De France, a jazz ensemble for string instruments. This 'New Quintette' was created as a tribute to the original version, and was led by Babik Reinhardt, Django's son. It also featured renowned manouche guitarist Romane, violinist Florin Niculescu, bass player Gilles Naturel and another guitarist, Philippe Cuillerier. Sadly, Babik passed away on 11 November 2001, at the age of 57." (Guillaume Veillet, sleeve notes for The Rough Guide to Paris Café Music, 2002) Read more on Last.fm.
