Hailing from Brighton, oom are a glitch-rock four piece fusing beautiful vocals with broken electronics and noisy guitars. Their music, if you wanted to squish it into a pigeon-hole, could be described as the mutant offspring of Bjork, Massive Attack and Nine Inch Nails... sort of. The band was formed in Leeds by Ed Chivers and Debbie Clare as a bedroom recording project. At this time Ed was DJing and producing Drum & Bass with Pash Ostovar on their own imprint - Breakz Lab, Debs was working with 20:20 Vision's Random Factor after a chance meeting whilst waiting for a train in sunny Doncaster. They gigged as a duo, supporting bands such as Electralane, British Sea Power and Eighties Matchbox. They managed to pick up the most unlikely fans along the way such as Chuck D from Public Enemy when they “…blew me the fuck away…” after an introduction backstage at a TV show. It was decided that just two people couldn’t make enough noise on stage so they recruited Alex on guitar after he contacted them as an avid fan. It still wasn’t enough so they ‘borrowed’ Darren from Jacobs Stories to complete the sonic arsenal… News was spreading fast and when Massive Attack’s 3D heard their demo they immediately asked Debbie to record with them. She is currently writing and singing with them, one of the tracks – Joy Luck Club is featured on their best-of album Collected released March 2006. Last year was a busy year for the band: they recorded and mixed their 11-track album in between gig dates around the country, and in February they signed to Series 8 Records, with their first single 'Poison' released in April, achieving a number one on iTunes. Recently they have been working with ex-MTV and current Lonely Planet presenter Toby Amies, who works with them on photography and design, as well as Souljunta media. There's also a video in the pipeline which will involve them working with Charlie Morrissey - who is a highly respected choreographer. Read more on Last.fm.
