Palmeiras

Sports' Society Palmeiras is a Brazilian multisport club based in Sao Paulo which has as its main sport football. The club's colors are green and white. The red, present since its foundation, was deleted during World War II, under pressure from the national government, at the same meeting that formalized the change of name for Palmeiras Palestra Italia. Palmeiras' most important titles in football are the "Copa Libertadores da América" in 1999 and the "Copa Rio" in 1951, at the time considered as the first Footbal Clubs World Cup in history. Palmeiras is the Brazilian team with the most national titles won ever, and the only one to win every official competition once held in Brazil. The white-and-green team has ten achievements of this magnitude, especially the four Brazilian Championship titles (1972, 1973, 1993 and 1994), the main dispute in the country since 1971. Palmeiras has won the Brazil's Cup in 1998, the Cup Brazil (1960 and 1967), the "Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa" (1967 and 1969) and the Champions League in 2000. In 1965, the Magalhães Pinto (aka "Mineirão") was founded; to celebrate such ocasion, a friendly match between the Brazilian and Uruguay teams was held. For the first time in Brazilian Football's history, a football club, the Sports' Society Palmeiras, was invited to compose the entire delegation: from technical the masseuse, the goalkeeper to tip left, including the reserves. A gesture of recognition for the best team in the country; which overcame all opponents and convinced all' presenting a state-of-art football. Palmeiras was nicknamed "Academy of Football" by the press and the people. The match was held on September 7th (date of Brazilian independence), and Palmeiras defeated Uruguay by 3 to 0. In the St. Paul's State, Palmeiras is also one of the main champions, winning the "Campeonato Paulista" for 22 times (with two additional titles in the same competition). In 1996, won the statual championship with the best campaign ever made in the professional era of this league. At the time, won 83 points in a possible of 90 (92.2%) and scored an overwhelming mark of 102 goals in 30 matches played (3.4 goals scored per match!). Since then, the brand has never been achieved by any other team in the competition. For comparison purposes, Sport Club Corinthians was champion in 2009, counting with the offensive player Ronaldo, the best scorer ever in the world cup history, scored only 41 goals in 42 matches played (0,97 goals scored per match) and won 39 points in a possible of 126 (30,95%). In 2001 was press awarded "Champion of the Century" for helding more titles than any other team on Brazil, with the impressive mark of 170 achievements against Flamengo's 125.
