Pendulum vs The Freestylers

Pendulum are a drum and bass group originally hailing from Perth, Australia. In 2003, they relocated to the United Kingdom. The group comprises Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen, Perry ap Gwynedd, Ben Mount (MC Verse), Paul Harding, and Paul Kodish (live drums). The Pendulum sound is typically heavy beats accompanied by low, buzzing basslines, overlaid with synthesized leads. The group has produced various remixes of other artists, the most well-known being their remix of “Voodoo People” by The Prodigy. Pendulum have also remixed themselves. In 2006, ‘Painkiller’ with the Freestylers was remixed by NOISIA and released on Against the Grain records. “Granite” is their biggest original hit to date, peaking at #29 in the UK Singles Chart after receiving substantial airplay from BBC Radio 1, while their remix of The Prodigy’s “Voodoo People” peaked at #20. “Slam” was also featured in the soundtrack for the video game MotorStorm on the Playstation 3 console and Dance Dance Revolution Universe on the Xbox 360 console. Recently, the track “Tarantula” was featured in the new Australian television drama series Underbelly (TV series) and the target render trailer for MotorStorm 2. The same song was also recently featured in an episode of the UK series Skins. The Freestylers are a British electronic music group, generally fitting into the breakbeat genre. However, while on tour, the size of the group may vary dramatically as well as the genre that characterizes the group. For example, in their latest Toronto show, on October 6, 2007, only Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey performed; their DJ set consisted of music such as hardhouse and funky house for the first hour, followed by big beat including a 1997 Chemical Brothers track and “Smack my Bitch Up,” by the Prodigy.
