Pina y Sus Estrellas was the first all-girl band from Argentina. Formed in the late 1960s, they played garage rock. The line-up from 1968 to 1973 was Mirta Diaz (vocals), Pina Vasile (keyboards), Cristina (percussion), Estela (guitar), Susana Lopez (bass). They released an eponymous album in 1969 and toured Latin America in the following years. Mirta Diaz left the band in 1973 to form Surama, after which there were various line-up changes. They also released a 7" single on the Peruvian label MAG that contained their best known track, the infectiously groovy b-side "Los Extraños". This track is featured on various garage rock compilations that incorrectly state or imply that the band itself was from Peru. Pina Vasile passed away on October 29th, 2013. Read more on Last.fm.
