The DJ and producer Ram Science (a.k.a. Ramilson Maia) was born in the Brazilian state of Bahia, where he grew up in a very simple way. At 16 he decided to travel to S‹o Paulo in search of opportunities, following his childhood dream to become an artist. Already in Sao Paulo Ramilson went back to his studies and worked as a gardener, painter and office messenger until he started involving himself with music and the nightlife in Sao Paulo. Starting handing-out flyers, Ramilson got a PR job of a night club in the city and, afterwards, started as a sub for DJ Fabiano, whom introduced him to the pick-ups. When he started to work in the well known record shop Rock in Soul, in Sao Paulo, Ramilson met the most important DJs in the scene at that time and improved his ears for the music. His first contact with electronic music began when he started to work at another record shop, the Discomania. In 1995 he was introduced to DJ and producer Alex Hunt, artist of renown experience that recognized Ramilson’s potential and invited him to create a track. From this moment started a great professional career of the DJ and Producer Ram Science. His first vinyl had 300 pieces pressed and sold rapidly, what motivated the artist even further to make more music. His third vinyl had 6 tracks licensed by the North American label Play it Loud. The tracks were played in the US and distributed all over the world. Ram Science’s label released 13 vinyls and promoted partnerships with DJs Andy, Xerxes and Jason Brali, among many others. In 1999 Ram Science launched his first CD called “E Musica” ( “It’s Music”), which was considered very innovative due to its mixture of Drum n’ Bass with strong elements of the Brazilian music. After the launch of this CD by Ram Science, many other DJs started to follow the same steps with this musical mix. For the presentation of this album Ram Science rehearsed with a band becoming the first Brazilian DJ to make live performances with bass-guitar, guitar, drums and percussion. This work promoted several gigs in several events, including the Free Jazz Festival in Sao Paulo. In the year 2000 Ram Science founded a school of electronic music, the Hangar 15. In 3 years the school registered more than 3500 students and today Ram Science has students nationwide through local visits and the internet. In 2001 Ram Science launched 2 albums: ”Musica Eletronica Gospel” (“Gospel Electronic Music”) and “Drum n’ Bass Brazuca”, both very well accepted by the public and critics. Besides that Ram Science made several success remixes, such as “Nao Me Deixe So” ( “Do Not Leave Me Alone”) of Vanessa da Mata, “De Noite Na Cama” ( “At Night On The Bed”) of Wilson Simonal, “Eu Quero Apenas” ( “I Just Want”) of Roberto Carlos. He also produced the track “A Tonga da Mironga” for the electronic carnival album of all-times carnival diva Daniela Mercury. In 2004 Ram Science launched his forth album called “Ramilson Maia Apresenta Drum n’ Bass Brasil” ( “Ramilson Maia Presents Drum n’ Bass Brazil”) and produced the remix “Filtro Solar” (“Solar Filter”) with the famous Brazilian journalist Pedro Bial. As a partner in the record label Mega Music Brasil he also launched the band Kaleidoscopio and had a remix released for the original soundtrack of the Brazilian movie City of God. Along his career Ram Science conquered international prestige with gigs in countries such as France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Austria and the Czech Republic. As the producer and DJ of Kaleidoscopio, Ram Science has performed in the UK, Germany, Italy, Portugal, France, Russia, Japan and Chile. In terms of Brazilian television, Ram Science performed in several shows in all networks. He also commanded a weekly electronic music program at Radio 97 FM of Sao Paulo. Read more on Last.fm.
