Jeff Higgins is Reddog. He played at numerous venues in Atlanta during the 80's and 90's and I personally knew him and still know him as a good friend and awesome guitarist. He is a big Albert Collins, Elmore James fan and does their style along with his own of the blues. Originally teaming up with Donnie McCormick on the drums and Chris Long on bass he was a favorite among all the blues lovers of Atlanta. I have had the pleasure of watching him perform weekly for over a period of ten years and observed many talented known guests join him on stage ranging from Tinsley Ellis to Greg Allman and a host of others in between. Formerly a driving force in the Atlanta music scene, today Reddog is on the Alabama / Florida Gulf Coast where he is blazing soulful, southern blues. Current band members: Roger Agerton on bass, Rick Oaks on drums. Reddog has been one of the hardest working blues guitarists in Atlanta, Ga. Infamous musicians that have been a part of Reddog's trio include the late great Donnie McCormick on drums from the Capricorn Record band, Eric Quincy Tate, and Chris Long on bass formerly with the King Johnson Band. Steve Hawkins, currently with Daryle Singletary, played drums and performed with Reddog in the late 90’s. Steve Hawkins is a powerful, talented drummer, vocalist. Session drummer Bill Stewart from the Capricorn Rhythm Section recorded and performed live with Reddog in the late 80’s. Reddog was always onstage surrounded by some of the best musicians in the South. On a given night, there was no telling who might stop out and play a few notes. Reddog was first inspired to pick up the guitar at the age of 18 after hearing Duane Allman's slide guitar work. Heavily influenced by Duane Allman, Freddie King, and Otis Rush, Reddog has established himself as one of the hardest working musicians in Atlanta, Ga. Reddog was the Monday Night house band at Blues Harbor, formerly the largest blues club in Underground Atlanta. Over the years Reddog has racked up some impressive accolades. In September 1988 GUITAR WORLD magazine included Reddog in an article "Who's Who of the Blues/ 50 Bluesmen that Matter." Anheuser-Busch provided corporate sponsorship for 18 months and the Newsouth Music Awards nominated Reddog for the best blues band two years in a row. In July 1993 Guitar School magazine featured Reddog in "The Next Generation of Guitar Heroes." There are four independent CD's featuring Reddog, although they are out of print. The press has always been very complimentary about Reddog's guitar prowess. TOWER PULSE magazine states: "At his worst Reddog sounds like a pre-pop-star Clapton filtered through southern sensibilities. At his best he sounds purely like himself." Jim Trageser syndicated writer described Reddog's guitar works: "His playing is impassioned; his deftness at picking quickly is matched only by the smoldering intensity of his playing. In short, Reddog is one of the absolute best blues guitarists in the country today." A few of the gifted artists that have stopped out to share the stage with Reddog: Luther Guitar Junior Johnson, Jimmy Thackery, Tom Principato, Tinsley Ellis, Sax Gordon Beadle, Bob Margolin, Warren Haynes and Jai Johanny Johanson. A few who have stopped out just to listen: Billy Preston, Gatemouth Brown, Johnny Neel, Allen Woody and Duke Robillard.
