Sangeeta is an Indian female vocalist who debuted in 1991 with 'Pyar Ka Hai Bairi' which topped the Bhangra charts in the U.K. and India. Sangeeta is also the alchemical process of female voice, song and passion fused with the raw male energy of bass, primal drumming, and other worldly guitar. Delivered with compelling theatricality, directness and honesty - Sangeeta is a performance that moves, affects, and transforms. All four members are driven by the need for sensuousness, sincerity and severity. The show is an energetic ritual, for an audience looking to be moved, and to experience a band that is truly offering something dramatic, brave and unique. Sangeeta Lee’s raw powerful vocals conjure the depths of primal forces, heralding heaven and hell at her side. As a classically trained pianist and vocally trained in jazz, world, classical and rock styles, her striking stage presence demands FULL attention. Daniel O'Brien is a self taught metal edge, punk rocker who breaks the rules of the bass into a carnivorous rhythmic style. Ian Moran is a trained jazz/rock drummer who smashes the drums with caveman power. Daniel Chittick is a self confessed non-guitarist who sweetens and severs the music with guitar noise bliss. Together, Sangeeta’s once intricate and layered compositions have been broken down to their essential nature, to intensify the emotional, spiritual and cathartic nature of the songs. The bands first ever gig was a trial by fire at the invitation of Alan McGee at Death Disco. Since then they have been assaulting as many venues as possible including The Metro, Bull and Gate, Bardens Boudeau, and Alan McGee‘s Rehab. The band have just returned from a tour of Scotland, featuring a residency at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and a slot at Glasgow‘s ‘Get A Room‘. ‘Sangeeta’ are extensively gigging around London including upcoming performances at the Bull And Gate, headlining The Metro, Hackney Empire, among many others. To experience a true, powerful and compelling performance... be there. In a previous incarnation: Immediately distinctive, Sangeeta's songs combine influences as vast as Gothic, American Gospel, Indian classical, Spanish Flamenco, Irish waltz, Sultry Jazz, Pop, and Avant-garde. This stark contrast of material is brought together through evocative lyrics, dark harmonic feel and Sangeeta's warm intimate vocals. The self titled album features Sangeeta's spellbinding voice in 11 original songs, with appearances by as many as 30 musicians. Not to mention the use of an astounding 17 different instruments, including the double bass, timpanis, flamenco guitar, cello, piano, midi programming, the Indian tanpura and electric guitar. The musical 'Invocations' on the album are a beautiful blending of the intellectual, the emotional and the sensual. Her music has a very wide dynamic and expressive range, with diverse structural shapes and intricacies. The dark themes and blending of tone colours beautifully supports the emotionally risky themes she explores in her songwriting. There is simultaneously vulnerability and strength in her style that draws the listener in on a profound level. The music offers more with every subsequent listening with its architectural depths, laced with enchanting melodies. The intelligent, sensitive and thoroughly artistic approach to her music is attracting a loyal following of all ages. Sangeeta has thrilled audiences in Australian festivals and events, including the finale of the Reclaim the Night Ceremony, the Women's Festival and supporting Grace Knight in her sell-out North Coast performance. She has also been nominated this year for three Dolphin Awards, being best jazz, world and adult contemporary. She now lives in London. Sangeeta is a performer like no other, with a compelling presence combining both drama with mystique. As reviewed in the Northern Star: "Sangeeta's voice seems to be driven by unseen forces, churning decay into chocolate cake softness. These songs will lose you in red wine, find you in warm leaves and strip you bare, grinning into the firelight..." Read more on Last.fm.
