About Scorned Embrace Scorned Embrace began in the summer of 2007 with one goal in mind: to push the boundaries of metalcore. The five piece group featuring Mike Clark (vocals), Elliott Flanagan (guitar), Logan Matti (drums), Mike Hendrix (Drix, bass), and Josh Williams (guitar), takes inspiration from bands like Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, and Unearth. Scorned embrace blends these influences to produce music riddled with crushing breakdowns, intricate syncopated riffs, and melodies that will be stuck in your head for weeks. Combined with an energy infused live show full of humorous antics, the band forms a crisp new metalcore experience unique to the Tucson local music scene. *Surgeon General's Warning*: clinical trials have demonstrated that listening to their newest album "Enclosures" can lead to singing their choruses in the shower! The writing process began with Elliott, Drix, and Logan. They sent a three-song demo overseas to their good friend, Mike Clark (Vocals), then serving in Afghanistan. Mike returned to America in late 2007 with fresh lyrics, and his friend, Steve Pardo (guitar), moved from Germany to round out the five man lineup. Scorned Embrace hit the ground running soon after with their first show in February 2008. After a string of successful local shows, a Battle of the Bands victory, and a teeming fan base, Scorned Embrace decided it was time to record their first album. The band entered LUNA recording studio (Tucson) in late 2008 and emerged in February 2009 with their full-length, self-titled album, Scorned Embrace. Capitalizing on the momentum gained from the release of their album, Scorned Embrace embarked on a small tour of California, taking their music to the Cabana Club in Hollywood and the Ramona Main Stage in San Diego. In the ensuing months, creative differences took their toll on the group, and forced a lineup change. Steve Pardo left the band to pursue other musical endeavors in April 2010, but his absence did not halt their unrelenting progress. The guitar vacancy was temporarily filled by good friend Lloyd Verbois, of Silent Bliss (now Drowning Arizona). Verbois accompanied the band to shows in Tucson, Nogales, and Phoenix, and dominated the stage with his explosive mane of hair when Scorned Embrace opened for Fear Factory at the Rialto in Tucson. In addition to his amped stage performance, Verbois was instrumental in composing "Plunged into Stagnation," which can be found in the band's 2012 album, Enclosures. Although Verbois was a good match for Scorned Embrace, his heart lay with his own band. In the Summer of 2010, Verbois left Scorned Embrace, but not before the perfect replacement was found. Josh "Grobin" Williams auditioned for the band within a month of moving from Michigan to Tucson, and it was immediately evident that Scorned Embrace had found its new guitarist. His jubilant attitude and unique blues-thrash-metalcore guitar style breathed new life into the group and solidified his place. Williams’ first performance in the summer of 2010 was Verbois’ last, as he graciously yielded his place on the stage to Williams, letting him finish out the final song of the show. Shortly after the inception of their new guitarist, Scorned Embrace participated in a second Battle of the Bands, during which they caught the ear of a talent scout from independent record label, EXPAT. After much deliberation, a contract was signed in late 2010, and for the first time, Scorned Embrace became a signed band. In January of 2011, with a record contract looming on the horizon, Scorned Embrace faced its greatest challenge yet: Write a full length, groundbreaking album in 7 months. Songs were torn apart and rebuilt in a struggle for perfection that continued until a mere two days before recording commenced at OG7 studios under the eye of recording veteran Nando Rivas. After an amazing recording experience, Scorned Embrace released Enclosures to a sold out crowd at the Rock on January 14th 2012. Enclosures has already made its mark locally and has solidified Scorned Embrace as powerhouse in the Tucson music scene. Over the last four years Scorned Embrace has crossed several thresholds by opening for Unearth, All that Remains, Bleeding Through, Miss May I, The Ghost Inside, Mushroom Head, Fear Factory, Poison the Well, For the Fallen Dreams, Powerman 5000, Veil of Maya, Motionless In White, and many more. They have released two full length albums, toured California, destroyed venues in Flagstaff, Phoenix, Nogales, and Tucson, and plan to continue doing so throughout 2012 and beyond.
